What is the Wild Atlantic Mizen Cycle?

The Wild Atlantic Mizen Cycle (formerly The West Cork Emergency Services & Friends Charity Cycle) will be based in Bantry, West Cork and is to be held on Saturday 13th July 2024.

When and where is event sign in?

Sign-on will be on Fri. 12th. July from 7.00pm to 8.30pm and on Sat. morning from 7.30am to 8.30, in our new HQ and Base, Bantry Tourist Office, Wolfe Tone Square, Bantry. P75 EY11.

What is the Entry Fee?

€60 including Booking Fee, Insurance etc. thereafter

Can I give an extra donation?
Yes, at Registration page you are allowed to make an extra donation to charity.
Are there minimum age requirements to enter?
Due to the challenging nature of the route a high level of fitness is required. If you have not participated in a physical activity for some time please consult your GP before embarking on a training programme for this event.

All participants must be aged 16 or over on the day of the cycle.

All participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Each participant, upon registration agrees that they are physically and mentally capable of riding the route.

What do I need to bring on the cycle?
  • Your bike must be road worthy and in good working order.
  • Helmet (every cyclist is required the wear a helmet).
  • Food and drink (there are food stations on the route but it is always safer to bring your own. You will need it!)
  • Puncture Repair Kit (2 Spare Tubes, Tyre Levers, Pump)
  • Mobile phone.
  • Windproof top – hopefully it won’t be needed!
  • Suncream – hopefully it will be needed!
  • Your Ticket (attached to your email confirmation.
If I register but cannot attend the cycle, can I transfer my registration to the following year?
No. Entries cannot be transferred to the following years cycle.

Is there a maximum number of cyclists?
Yes. This event is limited to 500 cyclists.
What do I need to bring to sign in?

You will need to bring the Event Ticket that you received when registering for the cycle. Registration will be by Race Number (Number in RED) on the Ticket. Sign in Times: Friday 7th July 7pm-8.30pm Saturday 8th July 7am-8.30am

Is there first aid?
YES – Ambulances and mobile paramedics will be available all day, should anyone require medical assistance it will be administered in the fastest possible timeframe. Give clear and precise information on the nature of the injury and where the casualty is located and give your contact number. Please call the emergency contact number provided on the day for medical emergencies.
Is there a bike mechanic available?
Yes, bike mechanics will be available on the day, however, everybody is expected to bring the basics with them on the day i.e. Puncture repair kit, spare tube, pump and tyre levers. It is strongly advised that you know how to fix a simple puncture as this could save you a lot of waiting time on the day.

If you encounter a problem that you are unable to sort yourself phone the Mechanical helpline number which will be printed on your wristband.

Please give clear and precise information on the nature of the problem, where you are located and give your contact number.

The coordinator will inform the nearest mechanic to assist you but please understand that they may take some time to reach you. It is strongly advised that you have a full service carried out on your bike before the event.

What time does the cycle start and finish?

Start time is 9.00am. If you wish to leave earlier you may do so, but you may not have the support of stewards, mechanical or medical cover or food stops on the route. Also the foodstop in Goleen will not be set up until 10am.

The finishing time for the cycle is 5.30pm.

What facilities / food stops are on the day?

On the 3 routes the food, water and toilet facilities will be located as follows:

130km Route
– Goleen (35km)
– Durrus (90km)

100km Route
– Goleen (35km)

65km Route
– Goleen (35km)

The Durrus food stop will provide sustenance for cyclists on the 130km route, however, if you feel the need you are more than welcome to stop. Water will also be available at the top of the Goat’s Path Climb on the 130km Sheeps Head route.

PLEASE NOTE: The feed station in Goleen is open from 10.00am to 12.00pm and Durrus is open from 12pm to 3.00pm.

YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE YOUR WRISTBAND TO ACCESS FEED STATIONS.

Do I have to stick to the route I indicated when registering?
Not at all, if you feel good on the day you can go for one of the longer routes. Similarly, there are some sneaky short-cuts available!
Are the roads closed?
There are no road closures for this event. Participants must obey the rules of the road at all times.
Cut off Times

The finishing time to arrive back in Bantry is 5.30pm.

PLEASE NOTE: The Goleen food stop will close at 12pm and Durrus food stop will close at 3pm.

Where will the cycle finish?

The cycle will finish in Bantry at 5.30pm.

What about car parking?

There are 2 designated car parks, details of which will be emailed to cyclists. Please park your car in one of the 2 designated car parks and cycle down to sign-on.
